The Neighborhood · El Barrio

One hundred and sixty-seven years of
narrow lanes.

Marbella's casco antiguo is Andalusian geometry: white walls, iron balconies, bougainvillea spilling onto cobblestone. The Plaza de los Naranjos is three minutes east. The beach is eight minutes south, past the old Moorish walls.

Calle Príncipe is quiet. The lanes are too narrow for cars, so mornings are footsteps and café chairs being set out. By evening, the tapas bars fill, but not loudly. This is the part of Marbella that predates the marina.
